Distribution and transport systems using Packo pumps
For many years processors have seen the benefits of distributing products around their factories using pumping systems. They are flexible, relatively easy to install and when required for long transport distances they tend to be more cost effective than traditional mechanical methods. Historically, the pumps used in these systems were modified designs of existing pumps and were typically made from cast iron or steel.
In modern potato processing plants it is essential to have stainless steel components in the processing area. To comply with the requirements we approached the well know specialist pump manufacturer Packo and together developed a range of stainless steel pumps, which are specifically designed to be used for transporting cut and whole potatoes and are also used in hydro cutting systems. The range, which is called VDDK was launched over a year ago, has proved very successful, with pumps being delivered to all four corners of the globe and many clients are now specifying the pumps for future projects.
To enhance the range, a 10 inch model was recently added. The addition of this pumps allows the processor to transport larger potatoes and greater volumes. The 10 inch pump has the same design as the smaller models in the range. Standard components are used where ever possible for ease of maintenance and support. The hygienic design and construction of the pumps has proved extremely popular with users and as the pumps are readily available, usually ex stock, the sales growth has been extremely rapid. Originally these pumps were looked at as a solution to a certain number of specialist problems with certain clients, but they have now become so popular they are offered as a standard component in our process lines. The pumps are available to all processors and manufacturers and give clients the benefit of our experience with these systems.
